Dark money is undisclosed political spending. In other words, dark money is secret money. Right now, Alaska bans dark money by requiring the donors to put their name and address on all contributions over $2,000. That means you know who is paying to influence our elections in every race or independent expenditure.
Alaskans deserve the right to know who is spending in their elections. Dark money means outside PACs and billionaires can spend in our elections, influencing our politicians, with zero transparency or accountability to the Alaskan public.
Sunlight is the best disinfectant. When we know who is spending in our elections, we can make better informed choices about the candidates or issues on the ballot.
Under our system, Outside donors have to disclose the real source of their campaign contributions. They can’t throw money at our elections in secret. If Outside spenders want to spend in our elections, they should have to tell us who they are.
