NO on 2 campaign issues Cease-and-Desist over false and misleading YES on 2 advertisement
September 9, 2026
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (9/9/2026) — The No on 2 campaign today issued a formal cease-and-desist letter to radio stations across Alaska, demanding the stations, stop airing or refuse to air an advertisement that misrepresent the provisions of Ballot Measure 2.
The advertisement in question, prepared by the Yes on 2 campaign, falsely claims that Ballot Measure 2 would (1) restore open primaries and (2) reject dark money in political campaigns. Both of these statements are unequivocally inaccurate when, as acknowledged by the Alaska Department of Law and Supreme Court, Ballot Measure 2 would repeal both open primaries and financial disclosure laws.
Specifically, the aforementioned advertisement includes the following language “Vote yes on Measure 2…. to reject dark money campaign influence and bring back the days of open
Primaries.” These claims are blatantly false and risk misinforming voters about the reality of the ballot measure.
Julia Anastos, Campaign Manager for No on 2, comments: “This ad tells voters the exact opposite of what Ballot Measure 2 does. This is not spin, it is false advertisement. Yes on 2 wrote this measure. They know it closes our primaries and reopens the door to dark money. Telling voters otherwise isn’t a mistake, it’s deception, and Alaskans deserve better.”
The No on 2 campaign is working to defend Alaska’s election system, including open primaries, dark money disclosure laws, and ranked choice voting. For more information about Ballot Measure 2, please see the No on 2 website.
